RENO, NV - Although the American Red Cross reported nationwide blood supply levels are low, locally the supply is looking pretty good, according to United Blood Services.
"We have a very strong inventory of blood products and there are no issues as far as our blood inventory is concerned," Steve Thomas, donor recruitment director, said.
Thomas said the low supplies are primarily in other areas of the country where severe weather forced the cancellation of blood drives. He said the intense heat might also be causing people to stay at home.
A spokesperson for Renown Regional Medical Center also said there does not seem to be a shortage of blood.
Thomas said it takes one-hundred fifty donors a day to keep the supply up.
"It doesn't hurt at all and it's not really uncomfortable it takes only a little bit of your time, it's really worth it and people really need it," a blood donor said.
