Reno, NV - Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney received a standing ovation when he wrapped up his speech to about 3,500 National Guard members in Reno on Tuesday.

Romney was addressing the National Guard Association at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. The audience seemed to like how Mitt Romney stayed away from controversial politics and, instead, focus on voicing his appreciation for the military.

"I enjoyed it," said Mike Upton, a retired National Guard member. "I think he was very supportive of the Guard. We expected him to be. He has some good ideas and we look forward to the election process."

Many in the audience didn't seem to mind that Romney was not specific about how he would address certain issues that he brought up: such as the backlog for veterans' disability claims and returning service members' suicide rates.

"I think that the folks that are running for office, they have a bigger strategy. And they have to time their remarks. Maybe this wasn't the time for him to get into specifics. He kind of alluded to that when he began talking. That this wasn't the right place to lay out a big strategy in detail," said Brig. Gen. Stanley Osserman of the Hawaii National Guard.
