A Carson City woman was thrown from her car and killed after her vehicle swerved into oncoming traffic and rolled on Highway 50 Sunday.

On Sunday, October 9th, at approximately 2 pm, troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol were dispatched to a single vehicle rollover crash on US Highway 50 Alternate, approximately 8 miles south of Fernley.

A 2003 Mazda Protégé 4-door sedan, driven by 31-year-old Carolyn M. Dana of Carson City, was traveling southbound on the two-lane highway where the speed limit is posted 65 miles per hour.

For reasons still being investigated, Dana allowed her vehicle to cross into the opposing travel lane and depart the shoulder area adjacent to the northbound travel lane. Her vehicle entered a broadside skid, traveled through a section of barbed wire right-of-way fence and rolled over several times. The vehicle came to rest on its roof.

Dana was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from her vehicle and she sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the accident scene. No other vehicles were involved.

The Major Accident Investigation Team, or M.A.I.T. will be investigating this crash and witnesses, or anyone with additional information, are encouraged to call Trooper Mike Stapledon at (775) 689-4623 regarding case # NHP-111008223
