PERSHING COUNTY, NV - Residents of a rural Nevada town are remembering a well-known music teacher.
Mary Ryan, 56, was killed in a vehicle crash on Interstate 80. The crash involved a driver suspected to have been under the influence of drugs, the Nevada Highway Patrol said.
"(Teaching) piano, trumpet, whatever needed to be done, Mary was one you could count on to do it," Russell Fecht, the principal at Pershing County High School, said. Fecht said he worked with Ryan, but also was her student. A music instructor for 26 years, Ryan taught generations of students.
Those who knew Ryan said she always had a smile, a pleasant disposition, and loved the choir.
Ryan taught at the elementary, middle and high schools.
The Chief School Nurse said counseling is being provided for students and teachers.
