At least 8 people have been affected by a recent rise in vehicular burglary that also includes gas siphoning in Southwest Reno area.
At about 8 a.m., the Reno Police Department responded to multiple residences on Kona Ct., Greensboro Dr., Castlewood Ct., and Augusta Dr. in Southwest Reno on the report of several vehicle burglaries.
The investigation revealed numerous vehicles were entered and items stolen. The suspect(s) also siphoned gasoline from several vehicles’ gas tanks. At this time, at least eight separate victims have been identified.
Vehicle burglaries are often crimes of opportunity.
The Reno Police Department would like to remind citizens to never secure valuables in their vehicle and ensure all doors to their vehicles are locked, even if leaving the vehicle unattended for a short amount of time.
Additionally, citizens may wish to consider investing in locking gas caps to prevent gasoline theft. These caps also keep individuals from introducing foreign materials into gas tanks, which can cause severe engine damage. Parking in well lit areas can also deter criminal activity.
Anyone with information in regards to this case is urged to contact the Reno Police Department Detective Division at 334-2115, or Secret Witness at 322-4900.
