RENO, Nev. (AP) - Washoe County School Superintendent Heath
Morrison will officially start his new job in North Carolina on
July 1.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Board approved a four-year contract for Morrison that provides an annual salary of $288,000 with the opportunity for a 10 percent bonus.

The Charlotte Observer reports the approval Tuesday was
unanimous and without discussion.

Morrison became Washoe County superintendent in 2009. In a
letter to residents, he said it was a difficult decision to leave
northern Nevada, but the North Carolina job allows both he and his
wife to be closer to family.

Morrison was named the National Superintendent of the Year in
2012 by the American Association of School Administrators. He began
his career in Maryland before taking the superintendent's job in
Reno.
