Moped Hit-and-Run Victim's Name Released; SUV Still Sought

RENO, NV - The Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office has released the name of the man killed in a hit-and-run involving an SUV Saturday night.

Around 11 p.m. June 7, Reno police say Eric Thomas was hit by an SUV near the intersection of North McCarran Boulevard and Northtowne Lane.

Witnesses say Thomas had been riding his moped westbound when the SUV hit him, then carried him and the moped for several hundred feet before the moped and rider shook loose. The SUV continued heading west toward US 395 without stopping.

The police investigation indicates the suspect vehicle is probably a 2003-2009 Toyota 4-Runner or Tacoma (probably with a shell). Toyota describes its color as "galactic grey mica". The vehicle will have damage around its right (passenger side) headlight assembly and the top of the hood. A picture of this type of vehicle is shown here.

The Reno Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect(s)and the vehicle.
