RENO, NV -- After numerous closures, the Moana Lane ramps for US-395/580 opened Wednesday afternoon. The new intersection is designed to accommodate more traffic. Most of the closures happened in early October when the project entered its second phase.
The intersection is the first of its kind in the state, with vehicles being moved to the left side of the the road to get on the highway.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Tuesday afternoon.
The project cost nearly seven million dollars, but NDOT says the project is cheaper than widening what's already there.
The work involving the freeway is being completed several weeks after the widening of Moana was completed.
The manager of a nearby restaurant says customers are already beginning to return. She said half of her customers vanished for three months.
Another major project, the Meadowood Mall interchange, opened Wednesday night.
