RENO, NV - Plans are underway for a memorial at Hug High School following the death of a longtime staff member.

Margret Clancy, the nurse at the northeast Reno high school, died at a local hospital following a brief illness.

Students describe Clancy as a mother figure, more someone to turn to for an injury or illness. One told KOLO 8 News Now Clancy talked her out of dropping out of school. The student has since graduated. Another described her as the "soul of the school."

"She was a friend," said junior Haylee Engles. "I don't think Hug High School will be the same without her. I honestly don't. She was part of our life here."

Grief counselors were made available to students at the school Monday and we're told a number of them took advantage of the opportunity.

The school is planning a memorial Thursday at 2:30 pm.
