Memorial Fund for Alondra

SPARKS, NV - Her brother admitted to shooting her in their Sparks home, killing 13- year-old Alondra Cervantes. Now their parents are left struggling with the loss of 2 children plus the expense of a funeral, and possibly a trial. Her death has also left classmates of Alondra feeling empty and motivated to do something, anything to ease the pain of her loss.

At school they decided to take action. They made a collection box with Alondra's picture on it. With their teacher’s permission they went to each classroom asking for donations. In just one day, they managed to raise more than four-hundred dollars. That single effort has only inspired them to do more.

“Since her family is going through hard times right now we try to help them out,” says Josh Carrillo, “because a funeral costs a lot of money.” After fundraising at Dilworth Middle School, they asked their parents if they could go door-to-door Thursday night and ask for more donations. Their parents agreed to chaperone, and say they are proud of their children’s efforts.

In addition to the money collected by Alondra’s friends, an account has been set up through Wells Fargo to help cover the cost of the 13-year-old’s funeral.

The name on the account is Hilda Garcia. The account number is 7321399219. You can make a donation by stopping by any Wells Fargo Bank branch.
