RENO, Nev. (AP) - A man who was shot by a Washoe County sheriff's deputy remains in critical condition at Reno's Renown Regional Medical Center.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the deputy shot the man Saturday afternoon near the Gold Ranch Casino & RV Resort west of Reno.
Reno Police Lt. William Rulla says the names of the man and the deputy are being withheld by Reno police. He says the deputy was performing a routine patrol about 3:45 p.m. when the shooting occurred near the casino along U.S. Interstate 80 near the California line.
The deputy, who was not harmed, has placed on routine paid administrative leave.
The investigation will be submitted to the District Attorney's Office to decide whether the shooting was justified.
