RENO, NV - "Everyone's gotta go around the block or just not come out for lunch, because of the traffic and construction," says Spicy Pickle Manager Bean Urban.
It's been a tough week over at the Spicy Pickle due to the road work right in front of their store. The construction closed part of Longley Lane right where their main entrance is located. Urban has noticed fewer customers coming in for soup or a sandwich.
"Less than half of what we usually get. I mean, some of our usual customers come in, but not as many as we usually have at all."
A few doors down, Reno Cycling & Fitness Sales Manager John Wickland says he was thrown for a loop when he heard about the construction.
"I had no clue about it. the first time I heard about it was when I was trying to hang a left on Longley and I was diverted around."
To get to the shops on that part of longley, drivers have to detour 10 minutes out of the way via Peckham and Airport drive. Unlike some of the neighboring stores, John believes business will stay steady at Reno Cycling & Fitness during the closure.
"Could it curb the general people who are just coming in on a whim? Probably, but for the people who know where they're going, we've had a couple good days and I don't think it's deterred them one bit," says Wickland.
Since everyday customers may not come so easily to the Spicy Pickle, Bean says they may have to resort to some other methods while they tough out the construction period.
"Get the sign waver out there. Hey come visit us," says Urban.
