RENO, NV - There's just something about today's date that has people thinking luck is on their side. It's 11-11-11. Those special numbers have people around town taking advantage of the good fortune they think it will bring.
Inside Baldini's, Galen Conley is feeling pretty good about this day.
"I'm playing roulette on this automatic wheel which is great. I love it," says Conley, a Reno resident.
He's also playing Bingo. And he feels luck is on his side.
"You can't get any better than 11-11-11," says Conley.
"There's no 11 on the card and I'm kind of disappointed," says Conley. "Because there should have been an 11 there. That would have completed my day."
This is the big day for couples to complete each other.
County clerks offices throughout the stsate have been expecting large crowds to come in for marriage licenses. Washoe County is no exception.
"Fridays we generally issue about 50," says Karen Erickson, marriage and business operations supervisor at the Washoe County Clerk's Office. "We're hoping to do 150 today."
"People really like the tri-numeral dates," says Erickson. "They think it's lucky. They're into numerology. It's easy for the groom to remember the anniversary."
That's a big selling point for one couple we found. They came to Reno from Sacramento to get hitched on this unique date.
"If I forget a bunch of ones, there's something wrong with me," says Roberto Tejado, the groom-to-be.
Local wedding chapels were ready for the rush.
"It's been a pickup from what it normally is. It's been a very good day," says Ronald Fisk, minister of Agape Love Wedding Chapel in Reno.
At that wedding chapel, Fisk says 20 couples had registered to say "I do." He was still expecting some couples to walk in.
The Washoe County Clerk's Office was staying open until midnight to issue marriage licenses. It has those hours every day of the year.
