A local war vet who served more than 23 years in the Navy is heading to Washington D.C., something he's always wanted to do, thanks to an organization called "Wish Of A Lifetime."

"I made three trips around the world," says Ralph Forquer, a Navy vet who served three wars. Ralph served our country in World War II, The Korean War and the Vietnam War.

Ask him, and he'll tell you he has seen it all, except for Washington D.C.

Thanks to "Wish Of A Lifetime," an organization which grants wishes to seniors, Ralph's lifelong dream is about to come true.

"I got a letter, we filled it out, I gave her all of my papers and we sent it in to Denver and I'll be darned if I didn't get a chance to go to Washington D.C."

For years, he's wanted to see the World War II Veteran's Memorial, along with the Lincoln and Jefferson Monuments.

"I said one of these day's I'll go, and I just got busy and I didn't get to go," Ralph admits.

But, ask him now, and he's ready.

"Oh I'm ready today if they called me up today I'd be ready to go," Ralph says.

He spends a lot of his free time reading history books, and says after this trip, he'll be able to add a new chapter in his own history book.

"I think it's wonderful they have this make a wish deal, it's fabulous, it's beautiful," Ralph says.

He leaves at the end of September, but this hardened vet, who has served three wars, admits that he has his own fears.

"I'm afraid to fly. I'm just afraid of airplanes, I'm afraid the wings will fall right off," Ralph says.

So, he'll be traveling by train and leaves September 29th.

"I'm ready to go," says Ralph.

Ralph lost his right arm in war, and says he's never been able to find a camera made for someone who's just left handed, so if you know of place Ralph can get a camera, please e-mail Samantha at samantha.boatman@kolotv.com, or news@kolotv.com .
