In wake of the Newtown, Connecticut tragedy and with some voicing concerns about the Mayan Calendar predictions for December 21st, several law enforcement agencies are working together to keep everyone safe today.

The Washoe County School District Police Department is joining together with members of the Washoe County Sheriff's Office, Reno Police Department, Sparks Police Department and the Nevada Highway Patrol in their efforts.

Police are stepping up patrols in and around Washoe County Schools all day today.

The Northern Nevada Counter Terrorism Center will be providing participating agencies with updated information, as it keeps an eye on things across the nation.

Washoe County School officials maintain that any threats posted on social networking sites like Facebook, are only rumors.

Nevertheless, everyone is asked to immediately report any suspicious activity or threats to police.
