Legends Growing in Sparks

SPARKS, NV -- Old Navy will open a location at the Legends shopping center in Sparks next week, according to a Legends spokesperson. Another Old Navy in Sparks is closing so that the new store can open. The Legends is financed with STAR bonds, meaning seventy-five percent of sales tax can be used to help pay for construction.

Target and Lowes also closed nearby locations to open at the Legends.

"..the economy is getting better and a lot of things are moving forward now,"a spokesperson for Legends said.

"It's probably one of the reasons (stores are opening at Legends) but also the economy is getting better and a lot of things are moving forward now," Catherine Oaks, a spokesperson for Legends, said.

Critics say stores re-locating are going from paying one-hundred percent of sales tax to only twenty-five percent, taking money from education.

Not all the stores have closed other locations to open at Legends. Many are brand new, putting people to work in the region.

STAR bonds are used to help projects get built that draw tourists to the area.
