LSU Dean Named Provost at University of Nevada

Kevin Carman, Executive Vice President and Provost University of Nevada, Reno

The University of Nevada, Reno has announced a new executive vice president and provost.

Kevin Carman is dean of the College of Science at Louisiana State University.

Carman will essentially be the chief academic advisor for UNR. And programs he implemented at LSU, like a Science Residential College for entering freshman, helped secure his position at Reno. It's similar to UNR's recently unveiled living-learning communities.

Carman also established "boot camps" for entering freshmen pursuing degrees in science in order to increase their academic performance. His boot camps have since been nationally recognized and taken on by other universities.

UNR's website says Carman will begin in the provost role on Feb. 1, 2013.
