LAS VEGAS (AP) - Nevada officials are ushering in a new ban on the use of hand-held cell phones while driving.
They're kicking off the new law with an event featuring crash survivors and road safety advocates.
Ban proponents are set to gather 10 a.m. Friday at the Events Plaza in front of the Henderson City Hall. They'll discuss details of the new law that takes effect Oct. 1.
Democratic State Sen. Shirley Breeden will review the calendar for phasing in the ban and penalties.
Family members of people affected by cell phone use while driving are scheduled to share their stories.
Officials say Nevada joins nine other states with similar bans on hand-held cell phones.
