Keeping It Local: Daughters Cafe

Reno, Nev. - A local mother and daughter run this local business right out of their own kitchen!

Barb Giacomini, the owner of Daughters Cafe, remembers the time when she was creating a name for her business.

"Just that word and that relationship resonates with me. When it came time to name the cafe, it was just what I feel about that word," said Barb.

She and her daughter, Bianca, run the café together. Barb takes charge of the cooking, and Bianca waits tables. When you walk into their restaurant, you also walk into their family.

"You know, you walk into the kitchen, and she's going to holler at ya, you know, it's just mom and daughter stuff! But, we get each other, you know, we get it!" said Bianca about the relationship she has with her mother.

Patrons Gene and Maria eat at Daughters Café at least once a week.

"Its fun, its fun, they play with each other a lot, they banter a lot, they banter with the customers a lot, they make us feel like family," said Maria McMillen.

"Very fun, it's like being part of the family!" said Gene Pascucci. "We get into it with them, and it's just really fun."

"It kind of feels like home here. The foods also the best place in town, really in my opinion," said Maria McMillen.

It may feel like home, because it is home for Barb and Bianca. They live right upstairs.

"You're walking into our house, and you're eating our food that we've eaten all my life," said Bianca.

The food is prepared by Chef Barb. They have a general menu, but it changes all the time as she tries new recipes.

Bianca says she loves being in the front of the house.

"I love everybody, and we have so much fun, and its so much fun feeding people, and seeing their joy after they eat our food," said Bianca.

"I think that's something people can know and enjoy, is you know, that our home is their home, they can be completely comfortable here," said Barb.

Daughters Café is open Thursday through Sunday for breakfast and lunch, and Wednesday for dinner. They're located at 97 Bell Street in Reno, between Wingfield and Idlewild Parks, near Downtown Reno.
