CARSON CITY, NV - It could be weeks before investigators know enough about a toddler's death to move forward with their case.
Friday, they performed an autopsy on the two-year-old boy who was found unconscious at his Carson City home last weekend. He died after being taken off life support.
Sheriff Ken Furlong tells KOLO 8 News Now the boy had been taken to the hospital on two other occassions, though no reports were made to Child Protective Services regarding either visit.
The boy's father and his girlfriend are cooperating with investigators, though her two children have been taken by CPS as a precaution.
Sheriff Furlong says we won't know what killed the toddler for as many as six to eight weeks.
he says the toxicology report may prove vital to their investigation.
