RENO, Nev. (AP) - A Washoe County jail inmate who escaped from a Reno hospital room and assaulted an officer before he was shot in the leg has been convicted of several felony charges.
Prosecutors say 53-year-old Vincent Cordova Sr. faces up to 15 years in prison at his sentencing July 23.
Cordova fled his room at Saint Mary's in October after he'd been transported there from the jail complaining of chest pains.
A deputy ordered him to stop and deployed her taser, but he wrestled with her and they tumbled down two flights of stairs before he fled into an elevator.
Prosecutors say he tried to take the deputy's taser and lunged at her and a nurse before the deputy shot him.
He was convicted Friday of battery, assault, escape and resisting arrest.
