Hundreds Gather for Murdered Doctor's Memorial Service

RENO, NV - Hundreds of loved ones and community members stopped by South Reno United Methodist Church Sunday to pay tribute and celebrate the life of Dr. Garo Gholdoian.

The memorial service was open to the public. The 46-year-old leaves a wife and two kids. Dr. Gholdoian was killed by a gunman while working at the Renown medical complex December 17th.

Those who knew him describe him as an exuberant, creative and passionate husband and father who adored his wife and kids. They say he was a renaissance man who knew exactly the road he wanted to take to get where he wanted to go for himself or for his family.

Jim Kwasni was diagnosed with prostate cancer by Dr. Gholdoian, but is currently cancer-free. He says the doctor's treatment saved his life.

"He was just very warm and caring; he's a healer and those type of people touch you and that's why I'm here today," said Kwasni.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a memorial fund at Wells Fargo. The account number is 3345174613, or send a check to Renown Health Foundation (note: "Gholdoian Fund") 1300 Mill St., Reno, NV 89502. Contact Jenna Moffat (775) 982-5361 for direct questions.
