Organizers for Hot August Nights say with the event just a month away there are still openings available and they are hoping local car enthusiasts fill them.
Past participants say they've been getting phone calls saying registration for this year's event remains open and that's set some wondering if sign ups are lagging.
Not so, says Executive Director Tony Marini. It's a deliberate attempt to lure locals back to the area's biggest special event.
"We're going to make sure our locals can get in. If they've got cars and they want to get registered, come down to see us. We're going to put you in because locals are the ones that made the event."
This year's event gets underway at South Lake Tahoe Friday August 3 and continues through the following weekend in Reno and Sparks.
Marini says registration for all venues remains open.
