SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. -- Rescue crews had to use a helicopter to get an injured hiker the medical attention she needed Saturday near Emerald Bay.

El Dorado County Sheriff Search and Rescue officials tell KOLO 8 News Now that a 20-year-old woman from Chico, CA was hiking and fell about 100 feet down lower Eagle Falls. She suffered major injuries.

People from California State Parks, California Highway Patrol (CHP), the U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement, South Lake Tahoe Fire, Lake Valley Fire, Meeks Bay Fire, and CALSTAR Air Ambulance all helped El Dorado officers during the rescue. Because of her remote location, they also called in the CHP helicopter H-20 to hoist the woman to safety without furthering any injuries. She was then taken to a Reno hospital.
