Harvest of Homes Walking Tour

RENO, NV - When you drive through Reno's Southwest neighborhood you can't help but notice it's filled with beautiful, unique old homes. Most of us can't help but wonder what they look like inside. Thanks to this year's Harvest of Homes Tour you have an opportunity to satisfy that curiosity.

The event is put on by the Historic Reno Preservation Society. This year the tour features six homes built between 1911 and 1939. Friday, home owner Beth Brennan gave us a tour of her high profile house at 775 California Avenue. It features a yard that sprawls across three lots, a pool, guest house and a magnificent view of Downtown Reno.

Inside it's all about the details. The entry way features a curved staircase with a handcrafted banister. Above the custom made dining table is crystal chandelier, which is original to the home. And in the area which was once a garage Brennan has create what she calls the "Nevada Room". That's where you'll find artwork from a former casino, and an ornate gas powered chandelier from a defunct brothel.

The landmark home is just one of six properties on the tour taking place Saturday from 10:00 -3:00 PM. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Money raised goes to help preserve unique buildings around the area that represent the glory days of Reno. For the rest of us, it's a chance to get some design ideas and maybe imagine what it might have been like to live in a mansion during reno's gambling heyday.
