CARSON CITY, NV - Two men who robbed a World War II veteran have been sentenced in District Court in Carson City.
The victim, 100-year-old James Sorrentino, died Friday, September 26, 2014, but not before writing a Victim Impact Statement, designed to be heard at sentencing. His death was not related to the attack.
November 25, Robert Hernandez and Jordan Burkhart were sentenced to six years to 15 years each for robbery against a person over the age of 60, and an additional six years to 20 years for the elderly enhancement. The sentences are consecutive.
Burkhart will serve additional time for a non-related Washoe County crime.
Both men pleaded guilty to forcing their way into Sorrentino's home over Memorial Day weekend, attacking him and ransacking the house. They got away with a watch, a pocketknife and a wallet containing $30.
