CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Sponsors of one anti-abortion initiative in Nevada are withdrawing their proposed constitutional amendment and will join forces to help gather signatures for a competing but separate measure.
The Nevada Prolife Coalition sent a letter Tuesday to the secretary of state, withdrawing its constitutional proposal from consideration.
Organizers say they instead will work with members of Personhood
Nevada to collect signatures for its proposal.
Both measures would define life as beginning at conception and prohibit some forms of birth control, fertility treatments when selective reduction is used, and embryonic stem cell research.
Sponsors must collect more than 72,000 signatures by June 19 to qualify for the November ballot.
