RENO, NV - The Washoe County Health District is allowing woodburning in pellet stoves and fireplaces with no restrictions again after several days of yellow and red codes.
Because of lack of wind allowing pollution to build up, no woodburning at all was allowed on Sunday, and every day since, there has been a yellow code, urging people to cut down on woodburning. But Thursday morning, health district officials tested the air and concluded the air is clean enough to allow burning. So the code is green until further notice.
The air had been potentially dangerous to people with certain conditions.
The affected area was Reno, Sparks and southern Washoe County from Washoe Valley to Cold Springs.
The Health District wants to thank area citizens who participated in voluntarily curtailing wood burning for their help in preserving the air quality of our community.
