CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval has ordered
flags be lowered to half-staff on Thursday in honor of Washoe
District Judge Robert Perry.

Perry died Tuesday at a Reno hospital after a lengthy illness.
He was 68.

Sandoval says Perry was a respected jurist, lawyer, Marine and a
friend.

He says Perry served the people of Washoe County with integrity
and believed in equal justice for all.

In a statement, the governor and first lady Kathleen Sandoval
extended condolences to Perry's family, colleagues and friends.

Perry was appointed to the bench in 2005 by former Gov. Kenny
Guinn.

In 2010, he presided over the trial of James Biela, who was
convicted of murdering Brianna Denison and sexually assaulting two
other women. Biela was sentenced to death.
