Ghost Hunting Brings Money to Virginia City

VIRGINIA CITY, NV - Paranormal experts say there's no better place than Virginia City if you want to catch a glimpse of someone from beyond the grave.

They believe it is Virginia City's rich history that has caused so many spirits to linger.

"I truly believe all these buildings have spirits in them," Paula Burris said.

Burris is a Paranormal Investigator who focuses on spiritual voice recordings. She said she believes the ghosts stay because living in Virginia City was the best time of their life.

"When the town was in it's hay day, people were becoming millionaires over night. If you go into that spirit world and you have a choice to stay in a time that was your favorite, why wouldn't you?"

And Virginia City has capitalized on people's curiosity in the paranormal. Throughout the years hundreds of people flock to the old mining town in hopes of sighting a spirit in one of the many historic buildings.

Angela Zelasko is the owner of Virginia City Paranormal which operates out of the old Catholic Hospital built in 1875. She hosts several tours throughout the town including through Piper's Opera House and the old Washoe Club.

She says people are becoming increasingly interested in ghosts and Virgina City's past is helping it's future.

"We're just trying to give a little bit of a unique experience to the town that no other town can provide," she said. "Rooms are always booked, people enjoy shopping and seeing all the local characters."

She says all the paranormal interest has helped local shops and restaurants during these rough times.
