Gateway Project Completed Ahead of Schedule at Reno-Tahoe International Airport

RENO, NV.--An 18-month project at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport is completed, one month ahead of schedule.

The "Gateway Project" gave the security area a new face-lift, a new area called the "High Mountain Marketplace" is also new.

Before the project, passengers would go upstairs to two different security checkpoints. Now, passengers will be going through one security checkpoint and it's downstairs past the slot machines.

The Airport Authority tells KOLO 8 News Now that the equipment in the security area is top of the line, and nothing compares to it on the West Coast.

About 9,500 passengers fly out and into Reno-Tahoe International Airport everyday. The Airport Authority says the new security area will hold 1,300 travelers at one time. They add, it will only take ten minutes to get through the line when it's that busy.

Some of the new restaurants and stores include: Emerald Bay Taphouse, La Brea Bakery, Mountain House Diner, Timber Ridge, McDonalds, Brighton Collectibles, InMotion Entertainment, No Boundaries and the Reno-Tahoe Travel Mart.

The new area officially opens to the public on March 21st at 4am.
