More clerks are selling alcohol to minors.

RENO, NV - On Thursday, May 23, 2013 detectives from the Regional Street Enforcement Team (SET) conducted an underage alcohol compliance operation at several local restaurants and bars. One 18-year-old and one 19-year-old volunteer attempted to purchase alcohol at 28 locations. All 28 businesses refused to sell alcohol to the minors.

As is the case in all alcohol compliance checks, the minors possessed their actual state issued identifications which clearly identified them as being under the age of 21. When asked by the employees for identification, the volunteers provided their actual identification.

This compliance check was funded entirely by Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) grant funds, which were secured by Join Together Northern Nevada (JTNN).

This is the first alcohol compliance check which has resulted in 100% compliance.

Last week a similar alcohol operation, focusing on convenience stores, resulted in a 92% compliance rate after 60 stores were checked, also the highest compliance rate in many years.

The Reno police department and Join Together Northern Nevada have worked closely with local businesses to create a partnership while educating employees about the dangers in serving or selling alcohol to minors. These two compliance operations are a testament to the commitment of the passing businesses’ attention to underage drinking.

The Regional Street Enforcement team is comprised of detectives from the Reno Police Department, Sparks Police Department, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, and the University of Nevada Police Department.
