SPARKS, NV – Former Sparks Fire Chief Andreas “Andy” Flock has announced his intention to run for Sparks City Council, Ward 4. Flock has been a resident of Sparks for 34 years and a resident of Ward 4 for 24 years.

“I am an active and committed member of this community, and motivated to make a difference and continue to enhance the quality of life in the city I have chosen to live, work, and raise my family,” says Flock.

Flock served more than 30 years with the Sparks Fire Department beginning as a volunteer firefighter in 1983, and working his way through the ranks to become the city’s chief in 2007. He retired from the city in September 2013.

“As a candidate and a possible future member of the Sparks City Council, I am committed to reaching out to the citizens of this City and listening to their concerns and priorities. As a representative of the citizens, it is important to understand and respect the thoughts and ideas of those you represent,” says Flock.

Flock also served 30 years in the Nevada Air National Guard, receiving an honorable discharge in 2007 as a Chief Master Sergeant, according to his news release. He is active as a volunteer in the community, which includes his membership in the Sparks Centennial Sunrise Rotary Club.

Flock moved to the Reno/Sparks area when he was 9 years old from Chicago. He attended Jessie Beck Elementary School, Billinghurst Junior High School and Wooster High School. He received Associates in Applied Science degrees from the Community College of the Air Force and Truckee Meadows Community College, and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Cogswell Polytechnical College.

Ward 4 is currently represented by Mike Carrigan, who is prevented by term limits from seeking another term.
