VIRGINIA CITY, Nev. Starting in May, Virginia City is offering free admission into their 17 museums as part of their Flashback Friday.
"The idea actually came to us last year when we started posting black and white photos on Facebook," Deny Dotson, director of Virginia City's Tourism Commission said. "The interaction was got was off the chart so we partnered with Nevada's 150th birthday and expand it to a series of events called Flashback Fridays."
On the first Friday of every month between May and October, entry into the Comstock's 17 museums, including the Silver State National Peace Officers Museum, will be free.
July will be the only month not observing Flashback Friday due to the Fourth of July celebrations.
"The museums are excited to open their doors and show everyone what the Comstock is made of," Dotson said.
To participate, stop by the Visitor's Center on C street, pick up a map and make your way through the tour.
"Once every spot on the map is stamped, they bring it back here to the Visitor's Center and we will give them a free 11 x 17 framed black and white photo of Virginia City, probably from the late 1800s," Dotson said.
