RENO, Nev- Thousands of people got to enjoy classic cars and various fun filled events during Hot August Nights. And while another successful year is in the books, some people were caught breaking the law.
According to Reno Police Department, 24 people were arrested this year; the number does not include warnings. 19 downtown businesses and the Aces Baseball Stadium were visited with 18 of the business in compliance.
Charges included eight open container alcohol, three disturbing the peace, two intoxicated pedestrian in roadway, four careless and reckless driving, and one charge for graffiti. In 2012, there were 20 misdemeanor arrests and two felony arrests.
This is the third year that the city of Reno partnered with Hot August Nights and the downtown Casino properties to allow beer garden concept for the entire footprint of the downtown venue. The partnerships between the City of Reno and the downtown properties have assisted with reducing City service costs overtime.
On March 13, 2013, the Reno City Council approved $40,000 in in-kind sponsorship for City services for the event which will cover the costs associated with public safety, traffic control, and city personnel.
