LAS VEGAS (AP) - The top federal prosecutor in Nevada says four Native American tribes in northern Nevada will receive about $1.2 million from the federal Justice Department to pay for crime prevention and law enforcement programs.

The number of tribes receiving grants is down from five last year, and the overall amount is $2.4 million less.

Justice Department spokesman Wyn Hornbuckle said Thursday that fewer federal dollars were appropriated for the program this year.

Tribal recipients are the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone, Shoshone-Paiutes of Duck Valley, Te-Moak Western Shoshone and Washoe of Nevada and California.

The Coordinated Tribal Assistance Solicitation awards aim to address violence against women, elder abuse, juvenile justice and alcohol and substance abuse.

They also support public safety and community policing, methamphetamine enforcement, corrections and tribal youth programs.
