STOREY COUNTY, NV -- Brenda Bolander lost her son in Iraq several years ago, and is now on a mission to honor local heroes.
Staff Sgt. Bryan Bolander died several days before he was to be married. Brenda said he died protecting others.
"He covered somebody else to save them I guess... he was a hero in our eyes," she said.
Brenda is working to make and hang banners in tribute to soldiers. The banners would be hung on lamp posts along C Street in Storey County for the Fourth of July.
She said a company made the hangers for cost, and several local businesses are helping in the effort.
"It hit very close to home for me, not only was it my best friend's son, but my son was (in Iraq) also," coffee shop owner Karen James said.
Brenda said she hopes to hang two-hundred banners.
