Eight WCSD Seniors Awarded Merit Scholarships

RENO, NV - Eight high school seniors from the Washoe County School District have earned college scholarships through the National Merit Scholarship Corporation for the 2014-2015 school year.

Four students were named Merit Scholars and will receive $2,500 scholarships. Four other students will receive college-sponsored scholarships from the schools in which they plan to enroll this fall.

College and universities sponsor National Merit Scholarships that are renewable and cover up to four years of undergraduate study at the sponsor institution.

Charlotte Ebner and Michael Y. Wan from Wooster High School each received the National Merit Scholarship worth $2,500. Corey A. Berger from reed High School and Ariel M. Gupta from Reno High School also received the award.

Brittany Blair from Reno High School. Isaac B. Hickox-Young from Damonte Ranch High School, Anna Miller from Reed High School and
Bailey C. Watkins from Galena High School will receive college-sponsored scholarships from the schools in which they plan to enroll this fall.

Within those limits, officials at the college determine each winner’s annual merit scholarship stipend using financial information filed with the institution. The stipends range from $500 to $2,000 annually.
