"You better get a smaller car to get around. You buy one of these big gas guzzlers, you're hurtin' for certain," says Lonnie Houser.
After a two-hour Sacramento commute to see relatives in Reno for Easter, Houser had plenty to say about the constantly rising gas prices.
"When I left Sacramento it was $4.05," says Houser.
Houser was happy to find Reno's cheapest rate, $3.89 at Smart Gas on North Virginia and Parr Boulevard.
"Double celebration you can call it. The easter celebration and the gas price celebration," says Smart Gas manager Navdeep Kalia.
When many people go to the gas station, they want to make sure they're getting the best price possible. So before they head to any station, they find out what they're paying before they hit the pump.
"When I'm down to about a quarter of a tank, I start shopping. If the prices are going down, I wait until the last minute," says Norm Johnson.
"I ask my friends, because my friends travel a lot too. I don't know, but I'm going to start looking around and maybe there's websites, I've heard that in the past," says Matt Mehlhaff.
There are. One site iss called gasbuddy.com which lists the gas prices at station's all over Reno. It also marks Nevada as the 14th highest average gas at $3.96 for a gallon of regular unleaded. It could be worse. Houser's home state of California clocks in at $4.25.
"Once you get their gasoline, it's all down hill," says Houser.
So when he's commuting here, Houser says he'll probably find the best deal in Reno instead.
