RENO, NV - After several accidents in the I-80 construction area, those responsible for the project say the lane configurations are safe. Kathleen Taylor, public information manager for the I-80 Design-Build project, said many problems could be avoided if drivers were courteous. The speed limit is 55 miles per hour in the area.
Crews are currently working on replacing decades old concrete on I-80 through Reno and Sparks.
"It's kind of scary," Debbie Keck said of merging in the construction area.
Drivers also said during peak hours, there can be traffic congestion up ramps and onto streets.
"It would be easier if there were more lanes in the evening getting home," a driver said.
Crews hope to make significant progress on the I-80 project during the warm months. Starting Monday there will be new lane configurations.
