RENO, NV - An old part is starting to be the up-and-coming scene. Midtown is home to a a few local favorite eateries but now can add a local favorite coffee shop to its clientele.
Dreamers Coffeehouse opens its doors again after a two-year hiatus. Now with its new location, people are wondering if it still has that same "Dreamers" atmosphere.
It's been a local favorite for eight years, but closed its doors in 2009 because the owner, John Bascom, could no longer afford the rent. It is now relocated at 27 S Virginia Street where Del-Mar, an old nightclub once stood.
With its new location, Bascom hopes Dreamers will regain the title of "local hotspot."
"We're smaller, a little more cozy. We definitely have more visibility on the streets so you can watch people walk y, you can sit back in the leather club chairs or you can check out the art. Basically, it's very similar just a smaller scare," Bascom said.
He also says there will be more of a focus on keeping things local. Dreamers offers three local roasters, local food and pastries and of course, local artwork.
One of the many things Bascom says customers can expect is the consistency with the same staff and taste in their coffee every day.
Not many people realized Dreamers opened about four weeks ago, but Bascom says he wanted a quiet re-opening to work out all its kinks before the grand, public opening. He says its the support of Dreamers' loyal customers that has kept the business alive.
"We love the coffee. One of my favorite things about it was the Snickers mocha and then when they closed, I was like oh that's terrible, I just found this place I loved," said Gini Daughtrey, a Dreamers regular."
The popular Milky Way and Snickers mochas are back on the menu as well a its famous milk shakes.
The grand re-opening of Dreamers will be in about three weeks.
