A midday motorcycle crash, where a rider was thrown from his bike is snarling traffic just south of the "spaghetti bowl" interchange in Reno.
According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, a Suzuki street bike and a BMW sports car were taking part in a drag race, in the northbound lanes of I-580, at speeds over 100 miles per hour before the accident.
Troopers did not say what caused the rider to dump his bike, but did say he was fortunate to only have suffered road rash injuries.
He was treated at the scene.
The driver of the BMW is being questioned by troopers regarding the race and accident. Reno's major accident investigation team is also on scene, and until their work is done drivers can expect some lane closures on I-580 north of Glendale.
NHP says they hope to have all lanes open by the evening commute.
