RENO, NV - If you use the post office in downtown Reno, you may be changing locations soon. The Postal Service is in negotations to sell the building to the city of Reno.
City officials tell us that could mean using it for redevelopment, renting it to the post office, or selling it to another business. They say since the post office has been looking to get rid of it anyway, they want control over what will happen to it.
But the city isn't saying anything yet about how much it will cost or where the money will come from.
A postal official says only about 20 percent of the building is used for mail services, and the rest is vacant. And when the time comes to move, the Postal Service will find a new building in the downtown area to replace it, with customers given plenty of notice. It could be several months.
For now, the post office is taking comments from the public for two weeks. Letters must be in writing and sent to:
