DOUGLAS COUNTY, NV - Douglas County District Judge Michael Gibbons will be in court in January to face a charge of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter in connection with the death of a bicyclist last summer.
His attorney David Houston confirmed the information to KOLO 8 News Now.
The Nevada Highway Patrol says Gibbons was driving on Pinenut Road August 20 when his vehicle collided with a bicycle ridden by 61-year-old Joseph Longo. Longo was thrown to the ground and died later.
According to Nevada law, drivers must give bicyclists three feet of space.
No word yet what punishment the judge would face if convicted or what would happen to his seat.
