RENO, NV - The Washoe County Sheriff's Office Special Operations and Criminal Investigations Division is conducting an investigation into the death of an inmate at the jail Monday morning.
24-year-old Carlos Salgado of Sparks was found dead May 20.
Salgado had been booked into the jail on Sunday, May 19 on a misdemeanor charge of trespassing and a felony probation violation dealing with a burglary charge.
About 4:30 the next morning, according to a news release, a Sheriff's deputy observed Salgado unresponsive inside a housing unit cell and started lifesaving measures. REMSA and Reno Fire Department personnel arrived shortly thereafter and continued lifesaving measures, which were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at 5AM and detectives were called in.
The Medical Examiner's Office will provide Sheriff's detectives with a cause of death. At this time, the cause of death is pending toxicology.
