RENO, Nev. – The evacuation center located at the Damonte Ranch High School at 10500 Rio Wrangler Parkway, Reno, Nev. has been escalated to a shelter operation.

The shelter is a safe, warm place where evacuees can come for food, rest and there is a television for up-to-date information about the fire. Animal control is also on-site to shelter pets. Look for Red Cross signage identifying the shelter.

The Northern Nevada Chapter of the American Red Cross (NNARC) is urging families impacted by the Washoe Drive Fire and have lost their homes to report to the shelter and meet with a client caseworker. They will provide referrals for lodging that is being provided by local hotels. A referral will be required.

The NNARC suggests evacuees self-store any personal items to ensure their safety. The evacuation center does not have secure storage available. Evacuees are responsible for their belongings.
In addition to managing shelter operations for Washoe Drive Fire evacuees, the NNARC is providing meals for the 375 first responders carefully working to resolve the fire and keep evacuated areas secure.

At this time, the Red Cross is not accepting in-kind donations of water or materials (blankets, clothing, etc.). To help those affected by this and other disasters in the region, contributions can be made to the Northern Nevada Chapter of the American Red Cross at 1190 Corporate Boulevard, Reno, Nevada, 89502 or by calling (775) 856-1000. Secure online donations may also be made at nevada.redcross.org. The American Red Cross honors donor intent.

On those rare occasions when donations exceed Red Cross expenses for a specific disaster, contributions are used to prepare for and serve victims of other disasters.
