RENO, NV - A shooting that took the life of a U.S. Army soldier just over a year ago was justified, according to Washoe County District Attorney Dick Gammick.
The shooting happened July 11, 2013 when officers were called to a Reno home on a report that an armed man was suicidal.
27-year-old Kenneth Stafford was trespassing on the property and pointed his gun at officers who were on the scene. Multiple officers fired, killing Stafford.
Gammick defended the shooting of the helicopter mechanic who was deployed to Iraq for most of 2011, saying officers need to make snap decisions.
A 2003 graduate of Washoe High School, Stafford enlisted in the Army in 2009.
Stafford was awarded two Commendation medals and two Army Achievement medals in Iraq.
