RENO, NV - A homeowner is in a hospital and his house destroyed after an explosion and fire in Red Rock. The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District was called out to the fire on Fetlock Drive at 5:00 p.m. Monday. Chief Charles Moore says when crews arrived the house was fully engulfed.

Chief Moore says the homeowner was knocked unconscious by the force of an explosion just prior to the fire. He was slightly injured and able to make it out of the house.

A cause of the explosion hasn't been determined.

Firefighters were working a different house fire in the Red Rock area when they got the call for the fire on Fetlock Drive. Flames from a kitchen fire on Bighorn Drive and Wells Fargo Road damaged the kitchen, attic and roof. Chief Moore says there is also smoke damage to the rest of the house. Moore says the damage is repairable but the family is displaced for a night or two.
