MINDEN, Nev. (AP) - Cows are being blamed for causing a single-vehicle accident on U.S. 395 in Douglas County.

The Nevada Highway Patrol says a southbound vehicle struck at least one cow, possibly two, Thursday night near Airport Road north of Minden.

The car received major damage, but the driver escaped with cuts and bruises.

Gardnerville's Record-Courier reports troopers are trying to determine how the cattle ambled onto the highway from adjacent rangeland.

The open-range law does not apply to the section of U.S. 395 between Minden and Carson City.

On Monday, a man and his wife were sent to the hospital with minor injuries after their pickup truck collided with a cow on South Virginia Street in south Reno and rolled over. The cow died.
