ELY, Nev. -- Firefighters are making progess on the more than 7,000-acre fire southeast of Ely, Nevada. The so-called Egan Fire is now 80% contained, and firefighters expect full containment by Sunday, July 8th.

The fire started the morning of Saturday, June 30th and has burned through 7,238 acres of sage grouse habitat and deer and elk winter range so far. It is fueled by desert trees, grass, and sagebrush in steep, rugged terrain in and near the South Egan Wilderness.

Firefighters have been attacking the flames on the ground and from the air. The cause is still under investigation.
